This role sits within Aldermore’s Financial Reporting team and supports the Senior Financial Reporting Manager across a wide range of reporting activities. Working as part of a small, hands-on team, the role covers core financial reporting responsibilities including preparing and posting month-end journals, delivering detailed analysis, and consolidating multiple entities into Group results. It is essential in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and auditability of financial information provided to our parent group FirstRand. The position operates in a fast-paced, change-driven environment, requiring someone who can think proactively, identify improvements, and contribute to projects beyond BAU tasks.
The ideal candidate builds strong relationships across Finance, demonstrates a thorough understanding of their work, and is confident explaining it to the wider team and external auditors. High attention to detail, strong knowledge of IFRS, and the ability to work independently, pragmatically, and flexibly are also key to success in this role.
What will your day look like?
- Detailed monthly analysis of the income statement and balance sheet for the Group.
- Contribute to the Group wide month-end and year-end close process to ensure all financial controls and processes are in line with the Financial Reporting Framework.
- Perform month-end activities including the posting of month end journals, completion of HFM schedules and analysis of the underlying numbers ensuring auditability is at the forefront throughout.
- Assisting with ad-hoc reporting and financial analysis where required, showing consideration to deadlines and stakeholder requirements.
- Preparation and understanding of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Play a role in the Annual Statutory reporting for the Group and other Group entities, including contributing to the preparation and review of annual accounts.
What do we expect from you?
- Highly credible with the ability to communicate effectively and manage a variety of different stakeholders, internal and external to the Group.
- Track record of preparing month-end journals, preferably in a multi-entity Group structure.
- Strong understanding of relevant accounting standards and legislation.
- Proven experience of preparing IFRS financial statements and contributing to external audit.
- Inquisitive, investigative, and comfortable with ambiguity i.e. solving problems with incomplete information, and challenging the norm.
- Good working knowledge of standard accounting systems, preferably Oracle and HFM and interest in new technology.
- Strong Excel knowledge and proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications such as Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to challenge current practices and identify more efficient solutions.
