Purpose of the Role
The Technician provides essential supports for teaching staff across the two disciplines. The technician has an important role in helping teachers deliver the practical curriculum, in a smooth and effective manner. This is a key part of the pupils\’ academic curriculum and pupil learning depends on effective practical work. The post holder will work closely with the relevant Heads of Department who will manage the day-to-day workload.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Art & DT (Textiles)
· Prepare a variety of materials for lessons and projects. Including preparation of demonstration materials/resources and maintaining stock levels in classrooms of consumable items.
· Assist in maintaining a supply of materials, ordering goods/receive incoming goods (checking of delivery notes) as required, and regular stock checks.
· Ensure whole department equipment is kept in good working order, providing general maintenance and reporting any faulty equipment to the appropriate person.
· To clean and maintain equipment.
· Maintain a learning environment in which students and staff can work effectively.
· To maintain an inventory system for items within the department.
· Train, help, advise and provide support to staff and students, as appropriate, on use of equipment and materials within the subject areas (dealing with queries/providing help and guidance as required).
· Assist with group practical sessions and technical workshops.
· Give practical assistance to individual students.
· Provide assistance with the laser cutter / 2D CAD programme/Sublimation printer/heat press and sewing machines
· To prepare display materials and equipment, remove and display items of work around the departments as and when requested. Assist creative subjects with exhibitions and displays.
· To maintain all necessary safety signs adjacent to machinery and maintain a record of all equipment checks.
· Facilitate and maintain the health and safety requirements within the areas using CLEAPS guidance.
· To be familiar and comply with all relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
· To attend appropriate training courses and activities as appropriate.
· To undertake other tasks within the department as and when requested.
· Provide additional assistance, as part of the support staff, in other areas of school further to liaison with the department leads.
· Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the post which may be required from time to time.
School Events and Public Occasions
· Contribute to the positive promotion and marketing of the school in the local and wider community.
· Attend and ensure the smooth running of particular key events, including School Open Days and Taster Days.
General Support for the School:
· Support the School\’s commitment to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare at a level appropriate to this role.
· Be aware of and comply with all policies and procedures relating to health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
· Contribute positively to the overall ethos/work/aims of AESG.
· Participate in training, and undertake any performance development activities as required.
· Attend and participate in meetings and forums as required, both internally and externally.
· Be aware of and responsive to the changing needs of the School and maintain a flexible and pro-active approach to work.
