Aldercar High School is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and committed Pastoral Manager (Head of Year) to join our dedicated student services team. This is a key middle leadership role within the school, responsible for leading and managing a year group to ensure all students achieve their full potential academically and personally. You will play a crucial role in promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance, achievement and student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a year group, ensuring high standards of attainment, progress and behaviour
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the tutor team
- Monitor student progress using data, identifying underachievement and implementing interventions
- Promote student wellbeing, safeguarding and personal development
- Lead on behaviour management in line with the school’s Behaviour for Learning policy
- Work closely with parents/carers, staff and external agencies to support students
- Coordinate transition processes and key stage events
- Develop and implement pastoral improvement plans aligned with whole school priorities
- Support vulnerable groups including SEND, FSM and at-risk students
- Lead on interventions, mentoring and targeted support programmes
- Contribute to whole-school development planning and quality assurance
About You

- Has significant experience working with young people
- Has experience managing behaviour and supporting student wellbeing
- Demonstrates strong leadership and organisational skills
- Can analyse and use data effectively to drive improvement
- Is an excellent communicator with students, staff and parents/carers
- Has the ability to manage and motivate a team
- Is resilient, proactive and able to work under pressure
- Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and pastoral care
- Is committed to raising standards and improving outcomes for all students
Essential Qualifications
- Degree level qualification or significant relevant experience
Desirable
- Experience working within a school setting
- Knowledge of school systems (e.g. Arbor, MyConcern)
- First Aid qualification
