Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites. Our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at various locations. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs. We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to medical and allied health professional students each year.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the Sefton Mental Health Support Team, collaborating with partnership agencies and working closely with the Locality Clinical Lead for Sefton CAMHs. This post will provide strategic oversight to the continued development of Sefton MHST, ensuring the delivery and sustainability of the whole school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing. You will provide strategic clinical leadership working alongside the Liverpool MHST strategic clinical lead and work closely with other mental health, education and council partners. We are looking for a motivated and confident individual with a passion to improve children and young people's mental health services.

The postholder will be a key member of the Sefton Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Leadership Team responsible for the clinical management of their service and providing clinical supervision to assigned clinicians. The post will provide clinical, strategic and performance leadership for the MHST, and will perform responsibilities delegated by the Clinical Lead, including being responsible for designated areas of service development and leadership tasks. The post holder will work closely with the Service Manager and Assistant Service Manager reporting performance to various agencies supporting service delivery via performance management. Clinically, the post holder will support via clinical supervision and management supervision other members of the service to ensure staff provide clinical intervention of the highest standard.

CLINICAL MANAGEMENT / CLINICAL LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE

  • Support MHST members to assess, treat and discharge children and young people effectively.
  • Ensure appropriate data is completed by clinicians within their MDT.
  • Review the caseloads of MHST members.
  • Oversee safe use of equipment and resources.
  • Conduct appraisals of staff within the team.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate continuing professional development.
  • Provide clinical supervision support to staff as agreed with the Clinical Lead.
  • Liaise with commissioners to provide assurance.

Person specification

Education & Training

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) and registration with HCPC.
  • Post-grad training in a recognised therapeutic specialty and registration with UKCP/HPC.
  • Further training/study in relation to specialist supervision within CAMHS.
  • Recognised management training or equivalent.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in specialist CAMHS.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary team work.
  • Experience supervising a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience training/teaching staff.
  • Experience offering consultation to children and families.
  • Evidence of leading change initiatives.
  • Experience engaging with local support networks.
  • Experience in strategic and business development of CAMHS provision.

Knowledge

  • Ability to analyse presenting problems in the context of the child and family.
  • Understanding of psychological theories relating to a multi-cultural population.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to CAMHS provision.
