A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Specialist Therapy Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a fun-loving 14‑year‑old boy with complex care needs. This is a school-based role supporting this bubbly young boy with his daily care, therapy programmes, and communication needs. The successful candidate will be someone who is kind, caring, reliable and supportive.

Our client has a brain injury and a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. He is a fulltime wheelchair user and is dependent on adults to meet all of his needs. He needs full support with his daily activities, including movement and communication and receives all his nutritional and fluid requirements via PEG.

You will be warmly supported by the therapy team, who will provide full training in safe manual handling, PEG‑related routines, facilitating therapy sessions, and using communication strategies so you feel confident and comfortable in your role. He is a joyful young boy who loves music, listening to stories, sensory play, water activities, and spending time with others. He thrives on positive interaction and benefits greatly from gentle, engaging, and consistent therapeutic support throughout the school day.

We are offering excellent rates of pay and are keen to find someone to join the team long term as continuity of therapy and building trust is very important for this child and his family. This is a very rewarding role in which you will be making a positive impact in the child’s life.

Rates of Pay

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting this fantastic young boy throughout the school day, assisting with his care needs and facilitating therapy programmes as directed by the multidisciplinary therapy team. This includes:

  • Assisting with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, communication development, sensory programmes, and other therapeutic interventions as directed by clinicians.
  • Supporting the delivery of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech & language therapy programmes under professional guidance.
  • Assisting with positioning, stretching, and mobility routines throughout the school day.
  • Facilitating sensory based activities and communication programmes.
  • Supporting engagement in classroom learning, adapting materials as needed.
  • Monitoring and recording therapy related observations and progress.
  • Ensuring safe manual handling at all times.
  • Assisting with personal care needs as required.
  • Promoting comfort, engagement, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Working collaboratively with school staff, therapists, and the family to ensure consistency of care.
Person Specification

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Fun, enthusiastic and happy.
  • Experienced in working with children; ideally children with cerebral palsy and/or epilepsy.
  • Willing to attend all relevant training sessions and meetings as required.
  • Willing to engage and have regular contact with the case manager.
  • Experienced working with children with complex care needs (advantageous).
  • Experienced working as a therapy assistant.
  • Excellent communication skills including a high standard of written and spoken English and proficient in record keeping.
  • Comfortable with basic IT skills.
  • Able to keep calm in a stressful environment and respond well to instructions when given.
  • Enjoy working alongside others as part of a small team, yet also able to self‑direct tasks and activities with our client.
  • Able to follow care plans and risk assessments as well as routine plans.
  • Committed to fully supporting all aspects of the child’s ongoing rehabilitation as set out by our child’s treating therapists and professionals.
  • Able to maintain a safe environment for the child.
  • Prepared to report immediately to the employer, and the case manager any concerns regarding the child’s medical, physical or psychological health, and to record this appropriately.
  • Committed to treating all matters relating to our child’s situation and family as confidential.
  • Adhering to CQC compliance in relation to delivery of care and support.

A No Smoking policy is strictly in place. Employment of the role will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
