Job Title: Lighting Design Engineer
Location: NW England (Hybrid)
Reporting to: Lighting Design Manager

Purpose of the Role
To provide exceptional lighting and controls design support to our regional sales teams, ensuring all project deliverables exceed customer expectations. This role is based at our NW England office and is suited to a candidate with solid experience in UK commercial lighting manufacturing, particularly within the Education, Workspace, and Healthcare sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the sales team to develop lighting and controls solutions tailored to customer needs and project timelines.
- Produce accurate internal and external lighting calculations using Relux (essential) and Dialux (training can be provided).
- Deliver lighting and controls layouts using AutoCAD (limited usage level acceptable).
- Translate client specifications into compliant and effective lighting control schemes.
- Prepare project documentation including luminaire schedules, datasheets, technical submittals, take-offs, and BREEAM compliance materials.
- Ensure all designs adhere to current lighting standards, best practices, and legal/regulatory requirements.
- Respond to technical queries from sales teams and other internal/external stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings or presentations, providing confident and accurate technical advice.
- Manage and organise project documentation efficiently for internal and external use.
- Proactively identify improvements in design processes or customer service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with multiple departments to deliver solutions that align with both design intent and commercial goals.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3-4 years' experience in lighting design within a UK commercial lighting manufacturer
- Proven knowledge and usage of Relux and AutoCAD
- Awareness of UK lighting standards and regulations
- Experience designing for Education, Workspace, and Healthcare sectors
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects within set deadlines
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Understanding of the commercial context in lighting design
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- LIA Certificate (minimum requirement); Advanced LIA certification preferred (especially for interior-focused candidates)
- Experience with Dialux
- Familiarity with lighting control technologies
- Exposure to Revit/BIM workflows
- Experience dealing directly with clients or end-users
- Awareness or experience with Lean principles for process improvement
