Our Somerset-based client is seeking a proactive and solution-focused individual to assume the role of Transport Manager. This role requires a hands-on approach to daily transport planning, aimed at boosting operational efficiency and profitability through the optimisation of the vehicle fleet and staff coordination. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in liaising with various departments, including transport, workshops, sales, and management, to ensure high vehicle standards, adherence to maintenance schedules, and regulatory compliance are maintained.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Initiate and implement solutions to operational challenges, enhancing efficiency and profitability.
- Manage daily fleet operations, including transport planning, for optimal performance.
- Collaborate with transport team, workshops, sales, and management to maintain vehicle standards and staffing.
- Ensure vehicles meet company standards and liaise with contractors for repairs and services.
- Adhere to driving regulations, working time directives, and legislative requirements.
- Oversee depot operations, ensuring effectiveness, efficiency, and cleanliness.
- Ensure high-quality customer service is maintained throughout operations.
- Maintain records of fleet maintenance, inspections, and compliance reports.
- Work closely with the workshops to coordinate vehicle repairs and scheduled maintenance.
- Ensure efficient route planning and cost-effective use of the vehicle fleet.
- Supervise and develop the transport team to ensure operational targets are met.
- Liaise with other departments to resolve any operational or logistical issues.
What We’re Looking For:
- A solid educational foundation.
- Qualifications in transport operations (CPC National/International or equivalent).
- Proven experience in managing transport or supply chain operations.
- Knowledge of the removals and storage industry (advantageous).
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage competing demands.
- In-depth understanding of transport regulations.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Reliable and adaptable team player.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
