We are seeking a talented and creative Senior Bioinformatician with a passion for using computational advances to prioritise and advance high-potential therapeutic antibodies and targets from Alchemab’s discovery platform through to the clinic. Reporting into the Principal Bioinformatician, the Senior Bioinformatician will take a lead role in shaping and executing Alchemab’s computational target evaluation strategy by:
- Leading in silico target prioritisation and validation activities for emerging targets within Alchemab’s priority disease indications.
- Driving the design and delivery of preclinical data packages to support advancing programmes, leveraging both public and in-house generated data.
- Developing and implementing advanced computational platforms and analytical workflows; including agentic AI-driven workflows, to enhance target review, in silico validation, and functional validation across antibody discovery and development.
The Senior Bioinformatician will be expected to work independently and demonstrate strong scientific leadership, while thriving in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment. The Senior Bioinformatician will combine autonomy, creativity, and technical excellence with exceptional communication and teamwork skills - enabling them to influence strategy, guide colleagues, and deliver impactful insights that shape Alchemab’s pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Prioritising and validating emerging targets from our discovery platform by integrating multi-omic datasets from the public domain with data from in-house assays. Data types could include transcriptomics, proteomics, genetics (e.g. GWAS) and clinical cohort data, where relevant to the scientific question.
- Building strong hypotheses and scientific cases around findings, and presenting these to the wider company to inform strategic decisions.
- Contributing to experimental design, and performing data analyses to help elucidate the biological function of our antibody drug candidates.
- Contributing to platform development through exploratory research and methods development.
- Leading new projects and engaging in long-term strategic planning.
- Collaborating cross functionally, partnering closely with internal team and external collaborators.
- Keeping current on new discoveries, methodologies and approaches that might enhance Alchemab’s platform.
- Mentor and support junior colleagues in the team and supporting and nurturing development of their growth.
Qualifications
- A PhD (or equivalent experience) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a similar discipline, and significant drug discovery industry experience.
- Proficiency with python and/or R.
- An ambition to work with the Alchemab team to build a transformative company, carrying a sense of urgency in work to deliver high-quality results.
- Mastery in integrating and analysing genetics and omics data sets and deriving biological insight from them.
- Evidence of contribution to and influence of scientific strategy.
- Ability to effectively adapt and prioritise workloads in a fast-changing environment.
- Self-motivated, with ability and desire to take ownership of core bioinformatic operations.
- A team player who proactively and directly communicates and collaborates with other team members, and being able to communicate complex concepts to a wide range of audiences across various tiers of the organisation.
- Demonstrated experience advancing drug programmes from proof of concept and into clinical development.
- Working knowledge of therapeutic antibody discovery.
- Experience working with patient data, clinical cohorts and patient stratification.
- Proven experience in the development and application of machine learning models and agentic AI workflows.
- Experience developing new bioinformatics pipelines within a biotechnology environment.
- Strong expertise in statistical analysis techniques.
- Experience with omics, single cell technologies, genetics and biobank datasets.
About Us
The Company Alchemab has developed a highly differentiated platform which enables the identification of novel drug targets and therapeutics by analysis of patient antibody repertoires. The platform uses well-defined patient samples, deep B cell sequencing, and computational analysis to identify convergent protective antibody responses among individuals that are susceptible but resilient to specific diseases. Alchemab is building a broad pipeline of protective therapeutics for hard-to-treat diseases, with an initial focus on neurodegenerative conditions and oncology. The highly specialized patient samples that power Alchemab’s platform are made available through valued partnerships and collaborations with patient representative groups, biobanks, industry partners, and academic institutions. The company is based and headquartered in Cambridge, UK with the widely acclaimed Dr. Jane Osbourn leading the company as CEO.
