We are excited to be engaged as the search partner to a privately owned chemical manufacturer and distributor, based in the North West. They are a business whose focus is providing solutions to their customers, adding real value and inspiring innovation across the group.
As part of a succession plan, we are recruiting for an experienced Technical Director to support the Managing Director in the growing and leading of the business. This is a varied role with a strong technical bias, but also will have a commercial focus as well as a strong people centricity.
You will lead the Quality and Technical teams on site, support the sales teams as and when required from a technical perspective and be the ‘go to’ person on site for any technical matters and projects.
Role Duties:- PP Customer Development; Manage the sales conversion process, from receiving the enquiry from the potential customer, agreeing specifications, running trials to full scale operations.
- Liaising with the Operations Manager on the production of laboratory samples, pilot plant trials and scale up processes.
- Technical Oversight; Have overall control of all technical matters within the group across all divisions from raw material specification review and acceptance, product sales specifications, advising on new products, technical queries from customers. Generation of new and previous MS and PS documents in the new Zoho format as they are required by Production.
- Technical Development; Control of new product and new process development, via Zoho Projects. Regularly reviewing progress within Zoho Projects with sales, operations and technical departments. Optimising existing processes.
- Business Development; To market the products & services of the Group, through the telephone, internet, visits & networking.
- Professional Development; Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Staff Development; To delegate tasks where possible to the Management Team, to actively discharge duties to others and to train others to understand tasks so they may effectively deputise.
- Assist the MD with Special Products with Technical and manufacturing Support as and when required. Attend meetings both face to face and online.
- Degree in Chemistry or equivalent scientific technical education.
- Significant experience at a senior level within a technical function.
- Experience working within a process manufacturing background i.e. Chemicals, FMCG, Pharma etc.
- Proven relationship building ability, a strong people centric leader who can build rapport and become the ‘go to’ person for employees at all levels on site.
- Strong blend of technical and commercial acumen.
- A real problem solver with a ‘can do this’ attitude, knows how to find answers, to probe and question customers, suppliers etc. to fully understand challenges, problems.
