Alchem Partners are proud to be engaged as the search partner to a global chemical manufacturing business, specialising in fine and speciality chemicals in the search for an experienced Senior Chemical Engineer.

As a Chemical Engineer you will lead and participate in process troubleshooting and root cause analysis, working with engineering, maintenance and operations to ensure plant problems are understood and rectified. You will lead and deliver site development projects including the development of new products and processes to meet business needs, ensuring all projects and processes are designed and engineered to the appropriate standards to meet all regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will be an experienced engineer with a degree in chemical engineering, strong project management experience and knowledge of the chemical manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, increasing throughput, reducing cost, minimising operator input and reducing risk of operator error, SHE performance.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new and existing products and the design of new plant and equipment to allow their manufacture.
  • Identification and provision of appropriate design tools including external expertise as appropriate.
  • Provide senior engineering input to COMAH Safety Reports and modifications.
  • Lead and participate in process and functional safety assessments (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA etc), using process safety management principles.
  • Help to close out any relevant HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL and Bowtie study actions.
  • Lead safe delivery of capital projects from concept to commissioning and handover.
  • Balance safety, quality, cost, schedule, and operability.
  • Provide senior engineering input to process designs, optimisation, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Generate key process deliverables (calculations, PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives).
  • Raise and act as technical approver for modifications following MoC.
Required experience:
  • Degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
  • At least 5 years of experience in COMAH/high-hazard manufacturing environments.
  • Extensive experience working with liquid chemicals.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) (Advantageous).
  • Formal training in process safety, HAZOP leadership, or project management (Advantageous).
  • Experience in batch operations (Advantageous).
  • Experience with chemical reactors and distillation columns (Advantageous).
