The Role:

As a Senior Residential Children’s Support Worker, you will play a leading role in creating a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment for children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs. You will work closely with the Registered Manager and wider team to deliver high-quality care, support the development of junior staff, and help young people achieve positive outcomes. This role requires a confident, compassionate, and resilient individual who can lead shifts, build positive relationships, and provide consistent support to children and young people.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading shifts and supporting the day-to-day running of the home
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
  • Providing emotional support and promoting positive behaviours
  • Supporting education, appointments, activities, and independence
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports, and care documentation
  • Supporting the development and implementation of care plans and risk assessments
  • Working closely with social workers, schools, therapists, and other professionals
  • Facilitating family contact where appropriate
  • Supporting with household tasks, routines, and meal preparation
  • Promoting a safe, structured, and nurturing home environment
  • Participating in the on-call rota as required

What We’re Looking For:

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards)
  • Previous experience within a children’s residential care setting or in a similar environment
  • Experience leading shifts or supporting new staff
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child-centred care
  • Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Passion for supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes

A full UK driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Shift Pattern & On-Call:

  • 24-hour shift pattern including sleep‑ins
  • One shift on, two shifts off rota pattern
  • 3 on-call duties per month (including one weekend day)
  • On-call responsibilities are separate to contracted shifts and planned in advance
  • Flexibility around working during holiday periods, including Christmas and Easter, is expected as part of the role.
