Albright IP is a modern and professional firm of patent and trade mark attorneys. Established for 15 years, we have grown from a start-up to a medium-sized firm punching well above our weight and counting FTSE 250 companies among our clients.

We have had a small presence in Cornwall since 2017 and we now seek to take advantage of the skills in the area to grow our team and continue to provide excellent service to our clients all over the world.

Most of our qualified patent attorneys started their training at Albright IP. Everybody agrees that studying for the qualifying examinations is difficult but we provide a supportive environment, a formal training programme, and most importantly exposure to a wide range of interesting client work which will provide you with the best opportunities to succeed.

Role of a patent attorney:

A good patent attorney has a strong scientific or engineering background, combined with a sharp legal mind. You will need to be able to quickly get to grips with new ideas, and critically assess technical documents. You will need to learn a lot of law and then be able to apply it to your client\’s problems.

As a trainee attorney your work will include:

· Drafting new patent applications.

· Reviewing technical documents and assessing their significance for clients\’ patent applications.

· Preparing responses to objections with concise and persuasive arguments.

· Supporting existing and prospective clients with advice on intellectual property.

· Work on contentious matters including allegations of infringement of all kinds of intellectual property.

You will need to work as a team with other attorneys, trainees and paralegals, including those based in our main office in Cheltenham. Some travel to Cheltenham may be necessary to meet colleagues face-to-face, but this is not expected to be frequent and can be timed flexibly to suit your personal commitments.

Required attributes:

· Excellent degree in a scientific or engineering subject.

· Very strong written communication skills.

· Critical thinking skills and in particular the ability to learn the law and apply it persuasively to support your clients\’ goals.

· Ability to work under pressure and calmly deal with ever-changing priorities.

· Able to deal courteously and efficiently with a diverse range of people, including international lawyers, business people and individuals.

· A keen eye for detail.

The role is primarily office-based in Truro or Cheltenham.
