We are seeking a highly capable Senior Service & Small Works BMS Engineer to play a key role in the continued growth of our business.

This is not a routine maintenance role — it is an opportunity to take ownership of technically interesting systems, build trusted client relationships, working on projects and directly influence the delivery of service and project work across a growing regional portfolio.

The role combines advanced service engineering with responsibility for identifying, pricing, and delivering improvement works.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, acting as the technical face of the business on site while being fully supported by an experienced operations team.

In addition to maintaining and optimising existing systems, you will own small works opportunities from concept through to completion — developing recommendations, preparing quotations, and delivering solutions that improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.

This ownership provides valuable exposure to commercial, sales, and project management disciplines and offers a clear pathway into larger project delivery roles.

This position covers the Cambridge region with travel across Northampton, Birmingham, and the wider Midlands as required.

Participation in a 24/7 on-call rota is necessary to support critical environments.

We are a growing organisation with ambitious plans, and this role is ideal for an engineer who wants to progress, broaden their skills, and be recognised for their contribution rather than remain in a purely reactive service position.

The role reports to the Regional Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality planned preventative maintenance that ensures systems operate reliably and efficiently while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Respond to complex reactive callouts, applying advanced diagnostic skills to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Carry out deep fault finding across controllers, field devices, networks, and software layers.
  • Implement software modifications, upgrades, and optimisation strategies to enhance performance and energy efficiency.
  • Commission new installations and system upgrades, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Proactively identify system weaknesses, inefficiencies, or risks and develop practical, value-driven recommendations.
  • Prepare and present quotations for remedial works and upgrades, taking full ownership from proposal through to successful delivery.
  • Plan and deliver small works projects end-to-end, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, documentation, and client communication.
  • Undertake panel modifications, component upgrades, and control system improvements as required.
  • Implement integrations using open protocols such as Modbus and BACnet.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, building long-term relationships through professionalism and expertise.
  • Work independently across multiple sites while maintaining strong communication with the regional team.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours support rota for critical system coverage.
  • Maintain clear and accurate service documentation.
  • Technical Requirements

• Strong proven experience working with BMS platforms, specifically

  • Trend Control Systems
  • Tridium / Niagara Framework
  • Experience with Distech or other major BMS platforms is advantageous but not essential. Training will be provided where appropriate.
  • Excellent understanding of HVAC plant, building services systems, and control strategies.
  • Demonstrable experience in commissioning, diagnostics, and system integration.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, panel drawings, and control documentation.
  • Performance Expectations
  • Deliver technically robust solutions that minimise downtime and maximise system performance.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and trust.
  • Independently manage workload and priorities across service and project activities.
  • Identify and convert improvement opportunities into successfully delivered works.
  • Operate safely, professionally, and in line with company standards at all times.
  • Contribute to the growth of the regional business through technical excellence and proactive engagement.
  • Personal Attributes
  • Self-driven, reliable, and comfortable working independently.
  • Commercially aware and confident discussing technical solutions with clients.
  • Solution-focused with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Professional, approachable, and able to build credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Motivated by continuous improvement and personal development.
  • Excited by the opportunity to contribute to a growing business where individual impact is visible and valued.
  • Location & Benefits

Primary coverage area: Cambridge and surrounding region, with travel across Northampton, Birmingham, and the Midlands as required.

An ideal home location would be the triangle between Cambridge, Northampton and Luton.

Participation in a 24/7 on-call rota.

Company car or car allowance provided.

Ownership of small works provides exposure to sales, commercial management, and project delivery, creating a clear pathway toward larger project responsibilities.

Opportunity to develop your career within a fast-growing organisation where progression is driven by capability and ambition.
