The Opportunity

We are exclusively partnering with a specialist medical affairs consultancy to appoint a Principal Medical Writer as part of their continued UK growth strategy. This is a high-impact opportunity to join a scientifically driven and commercially agile consultancy working with leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients across a range of therapy areas.

The organisation has built a strong reputation for delivering strategic medical affairs and scientific communications support and is seeking an experienced writer to play a key leadership role within the business. The successful candidate will combine scientific excellence with strong client-facing capabilities and will contribute to both project delivery and broader strategic growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and review of high-quality medical and scientific communications materials.
  • Deliver a broad range of medical affairs content, including:
    • Publications and manuscripts
    • Medical education materials
    • Advisory board content
    • Scientific slide decks and presentations
    • Congress materials
    • Training materials
    • Scientific narrative and messaging documents
    • Internal medical affairs deliverables
  • Act as a senior scientific lead across client accounts and strategic projects.
  • Ensure all deliverables are scientifically accurate, compliant, and aligned with client objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmaceutical and biotech clients, KOLs, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously within a fast-paced consultancy environment.
  • Mentor junior scientific writers and support wider team development.
  • Contribute to proposals, strategic planning, and business development initiatives where appropriate.
  • Remain current with industry trends, therapy area developments, and medical communications best practices.

Requirements

  • Advanced life sciences degree (PhD, PharmD, MSc, or equivalent).
  • Strong experience within medical writing, medical communications, or medical affairs.
  • Consultancy or medical communications agency experience highly preferred.
  • Proven experience delivering medical affairs-focused scientific content.
  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
  • Excellent scientific writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing clients and leading scientific discussions.
  • Strong organisational and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive within a collaborative, entrepreneurial consultancy environment.
