Under general supervision, the Support Services Worker (SSW) is responsible for thorough cleaning of staff, patient, resident, public, clinical, and office areas in AHS facilities. The role requires a high level of cleaning and disinfecting skills to ensure AHS facilities are safe and clean as determined by Provincial Standards, Guidelines, and Protocols.
The SSW must demonstrate respectfulness and good customer service skills while cleaning for departments, staff, patients, residents, the public, and coworkers. A compassionate approach, including offering a smile and polite conversation, is essential while working. The SSW should be able to take direction and act swiftly, staying busy with SSW tasks during the shift. While working independently, the SSW assists the Environmental Services (ES) team as needed, fostering a safe and inclusive workplace.
The SSW follows a daily written routine and must be flexible to reprioritise quickly when challenging situations arise, reorganising workloads to complete work. The ability to work at a quick, consistent pace while still providing excellence in cleaning services is crucial. All AHS operations must be kept confidential.
Accountable for:
- High/light dusting
- Thorough cleaning of equipment, furniture, walls, vents, windows inside/out, ledges/edges, ceilings, doors/door handles/frames, bed frames/mattress, dispensers, counters, waste/sharps containers, sinks, showers, tubs, toilets, etc. throughout AHS facilities
- Collection and transportation of general, biomedical, and recycling waste
- Interior pest control
- Performing floor maintenance duties including dry/wet mopping, floor scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and shampooing using manual and power cleaning equipment
- Ensuring public, patient care, offices, and staff areas have necessary supplies
- Transportation and arrangement of heavy furniture and equipment using dollies and carts as required
Compliance with OH&S, WHMIS, work safety, and IPC regulations is mandatory.
As a Support Service Worker, you will also be responsible for the preparation, assembly, and service of safe, high-quality meals and menu items.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
- Physically capable of walking and/or standing for the duration of your shift and performing repetitive physical movements
