We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Accountant to support the finance function of a growing international distribution group with multiple European subsidiaries. Reporting to the Group FD, the role will be responsible for the accounting for the business’s individual European company accounts, and the preparation of the consolidated Group monthly management accounts. The role also involves multi-entity European VAT compliance, extensive inter-company accounting, cross group inventory accounting, year end group audit, all alongside core accounting and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing Group monthly consolidated management accounts.
  • Preparing individual European company accounts.
  • Management of Xero accounting ledger for various entities.
  • Prepare and reconcile European VAT returns and Intrastat reports.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all companies.
  • Inventory accounting and valuation, including reconciliation of inventory across systems.
  • Post accruals, prepayments, and month-end journals.
  • Raise intercompany transactions and reconcile intercompany balances.
  • Manage critical weekly group cashflow reporting.
  • Support system improvements and financial process controls.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
  • Multi-entity experience in distribution, stockholding, or product-based businesses.
  • Experience with UK & European VAT principles and requirements, as needed for a business holding stock in multiple entities across multiple stock locations across Europe.
  • Cashflow management experience, understanding of drivers or working capital and its impacts in regular cashflow reporting.
  • Strong on balance sheet controls and reconciliation experience.
  • Good technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • High level Excel skills to manage complex consolidation files.
  • An ability and determined attitude for resolving difficult reconciliation matters.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
