Role Overview

akt is the UK's national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. Founded in 1989, we operate service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and provide support across the UK through our Digital Service. Last year, akt worked with over 1,150 vulnerable young people. We exist because of a simple but powerful thought that no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Today, young LGBTQ+ people are still at an increased risk of homelessness and are twice as likely to end up hidden homeless than their peers. akt provides support and routes to safe homes so that young people can thrive.
The team: In March 2026, akt agreed a new organisational strategy, Home + Hope, to guide its next five years. This pivotal role, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT), will lead on translating akt's strategic intent into action and change, working closely with colleagues across akt to make the themes of the strategy a reality. The role provides an opportunity to be part of akt at the very start of its next five-year journey, shaping the delivery team, implementation process and initial project work and working in close collaboration with fundraising colleagues to raise the funds to deliver over time.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for leading the design and delivery of the implementation plan for akt's Home + Hope organisational strategy, including shaping the team and priorities and tracking progress so that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with akt's mission.
- Design and deliver plans for the Year 1 scoping projects, including producing business cases and plans with fundraising colleagues to raise income to support future stages of work.
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships and opportunities that support delivery of the scoping projects and subsequent phases.
- Work with colleagues across akt, advocating for the strategy, fostering and championing collaboration and change, improving processes, and making the strategic both real and tangible.
