About Us

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. Founded in 1989, we operate service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and provide support across the UK through our Digital Service. Last year, akt worked with over 1150 vulnerable young people. We exist because of a simple but powerful thought that no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Today, young LGBTQ+ people are still at an increased risk of homelessness and are twice as likely to end up hidden homeless than their peers. akt provides support and routes to safe homes so that young people can thrive.

Job Summary

Please note this is a part time temporary position working 21 hours per week, funded from April 2026 to March 2029. The salary is £16,468.20 per year (pro rata hours worked) based on a full time equivalent of £27,447. The role will involve the provision of youth engagement activities delivered to a diverse range of LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Our focus is in maintaining our ability to provide the highest service possible, giving young people the opportunity to access peer support, community engagement and life skills. Overall, we aim to support LGBTQ+ young people into safe accommodation and work or education and prevent them from becoming homeless again in the future. This role is delivered in direct partnership with The Proud Trust.
