About Us
akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. Founded in 1989, we operate service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and provide support across the UK through our Digital Service. Last year, akt worked with over 1150 vulnerable young people. We exist because of a simple but powerful thought that no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Today, young LGBTQ+ people are still at an increased risk of homelessness and are twice as likely to end up hidden homeless than their peers. akt provides support and routes to safe homes so that young people can thrive.
The Team
The Digital Service team offers targeted casework in the Southeast, Northwest and East Midlands as well as in East Anglia and the West Midlands. In 2024/2025, 30% of referrals to akt were for our Digital Service, making it our second biggest team after London.
Job Summary
- Work alongside the Digital Services Manager to develop and enhance akt’s digital offer and ensure it meets all current and potential needs of young people.
- Assess the needs of, and undertake casework with, young LGBTQ+ people who are homeless, vulnerably housed, or in a hostile environment.
- Maintain up to date records of young people accessing national casework.
- Offer support to volunteers around digital engagement including live chat.
- Contribute to and maintain digital resources and signposting routes to enable young people to engage with appropriate services.
- Contribute to the development of the online resource hub so that it continues to meet the needs of young people accessing online support.
Please note this is a temporary part‑time position of approximately 6 months duration. There is one vacancy that can be done from akt location (London, Manchester, Newcastle or Bristol).
