We are a close-knit team of 4 GP partners, 4 salaried GPs, 1 Advanced Practitioner, Pharmacist, as well as experienced Practice nurses, HCAs, pharmacy technician and management and admin team. As part of succession planning and to grow our team in a sustainable way to keep pace with increasing patient numbers and demand, we are looking for 1 to 2 motivated GPs to join our supportive team as a salaried GP working 5-8 sessions, with potential to progress to partnership for the right person.
An interest in frailty, multi-morbidity, urgent care or minor ops would be welcome; however, we endeavour to support all staff in developing a wide variety of areas of special interest as well as those who wish to remain a traditional GP all-rounder. We aim to be flexible with working days to enable GPs to juggle family life, hobbies and pursue other personal or professional interests and will consider waiting for the right person/people.
We are based in modern premises, purpose built approximately 13 years ago, serving a growing list size of approximately 10,100 patients, covering the town and semi-rural environ of Newton Abbot, and are rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. Albany Surgery is a member of the Newton West Primary Care Network, a thriving PCN serving 35,000 patients. We work closely with Kingskerswell and Ipplepen and Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh practice, the other practices within our PCN. This collaborative approach is supported by a PCN support team, with a lead manager, social prescribers and health and wellbeing coach working across the member practices.
We operate an urgent care/”on-the-day” team, with a visiting GP and Duty GP, who work closely with our receptionists, Advanced Practitioner and pharmacy team and use the system connect triage tool to help manage and direct patient flow. This has enabled us to focus more on continuity with dedicated daily continuity slots and monthly continuity mop-up clinics for each GP.
As a practice we are committed to staying at the forefront of changes within General Practice, as such we recognise that the support, growth and training of all staff members, both clinical and administrative, is key for the future of the NHS. Education and learning are our core passions and we have 3 GP trainers hosting a number of GP registrars, we support medical student training placements of all years, run clinical reasoning for students on the neuro-rehab weeks of their training and mentor health care professionals undertaking Prescribing qualifications and Advanced Practice postgraduate training.
We also strongly believe in supporting all team members to expand their knowledge and skills to fulfil their potential, which in turn benefits our population through improving the services and care we provide. We are focused on providing high quality, empathic patient care that is sustainable for us all, as such our team is our priority, and we encourage a healthy work-home life balance and structure the week to ensure we meet together regularly. We love to laugh and have an active social committee, who organise team wellbeing and social events throughout the year.
We continue to participate in the GP collective action to push for a brighter fairer future for General Practice and our patients and work closely with Devon LMC. We have served notice on several unfunded and high-risk work areas and commissioning gaps, such as the prescribing and monitoring of antipsychotics and the secondary care phlebotomy LES, which has improved prescribing safety and freed up more time by reducing workload and numbers of blood results.
