Job Summary

Under the direction of the Clinical Nutrition Manager, provides clinical support to the acute care dietetics team by conducting inpatient nutrition screening, following up on admission triggers, monitoring patients meeting length of stay criteria, collecting nutrition data, reporting clinical information, and providing basic diet education. Collaborates with staff and other disciplines to meet patient nutrition needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inpatient nutritional risk screening and documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Engage effectively with patients, families, and staff to manage menus and food preferences to enhance outcomes.
  • Support patient contact activities such as initial visits, meal rounds, and food preferences collection.
  • Manage specialty menus (allergies, calorie restrictions, halal, kosher, vegan) and assist with special menu processes.
  • Communicate with the clinical team regarding patient needs and service issues.
  • Follow guidelines for nutritional interventions and communicate effectively with food service and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrate age-appropriate communication skills for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement activities and projects.
  • Perform additional duties as needed during emergencies or cross-train for related roles.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with regulations.
