Our client is re-inventing online identity for a mobile-first world, helping businesses reduce fraud, lower operating costs, and enhance user experiences. They are searching for an Engineering Team Lead with experience in Java related systems, to help scale their platform that leverages mobile numbers as a secure and seamless way to verify identity online. The Engineering Team Lead will play a key role in guiding and supporting the team, ensuring technical excellence, and collaborating with Product and Solution Delivery teams to shape and deliver the roadmap. This role offers career progression, with the potential to advance to VP of Engineering following a Series A funding round, expected within 12–18 months.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Define and communicate the technical vision and strategy. Provide senior technical input across multiple teams, including Sales, Product, Engineering, and Platform Operations.
- Team Building: Mentor, lead, and build a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Architecture: Drive the design of a secure, scalable, and resilient enterprise-grade platform.
- Process Improvement: Establish and maintain a high-performance development process aligned with business objectives.
- Engineering Excellence: Stay hands-on with coding, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure technical quality and deep system understanding.
- Technical Reviews: Conduct in-depth architecture, design, and code quality reviews, optimizing solutions for performance and reliability.
- Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance platform functionality.
What We’re Looking For
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in B2B SaaS environments, working with JVM-based languages and one other backend programming language. Expertise in system architecture, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and full-stack development. Tech stack includes Java, AWS, Spring Boot, MySQL, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
- Startup Experience: Prior experience in fast-paced, high-growth startups or scale-ups is highly valued.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in online identity, security, authentication, or KYC is a plus.
- Leadership Qualities: Proven ability to engage in technical discussions, mentor engineers, and foster a high-performing team.
- Mobile Expertise: Experience with mobile platforms or networks is beneficial but not required.
- Engineering Background: Ideally holds a degree in Computer Science or similar, with career progression from Engineer to Engineering Leader.
- Thought Leadership: Act as a technical advocate within the company and the wider industry, contributing to technical blogs, conferences, and community discussions.
