Albany Beck is scaling its Operations practice and are looking to hire multiple Medical Underwriters to support one of our largest Insurance clients, during a critical period of operational transition. The client is launching a new underwriting system and will be releasing their permanent Underwriters to complete system training. To ensure service continuity and prevent backlog escalation, we are deploying a team of experienced underwriters to “hold the fort” and manage live case volumes during this period. This is a fast-moving requirement with urgent start dates.
Key Objectives- Reduce and manage an existing underwriting backlog (currently c.10 days and increasing)
- Maintain service levels during system training rollout
- Ensure underwriting quality standards remain high throughout the transition
- Support business continuity during a key system launch period
- Perform medical underwriting assessments across Life & Protection policies
- Review, interpret, and summarise:
- Medical records
- GP reports
- Supporting clinical documentation
- Assess risk in line with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate documentation across case files
- Meet agreed daily case handling targets
- Undertake initial quality control reviews during onboarding phase
- Progress to independent case handling following sign-off (with ongoing dip-check quality assurance)
- Contribute to backlog reduction efforts while maintaining accuracy and compliance
- Proven experience as a Medical Underwriter within Life & Protection Insurance
- Strong background in underwriting for Financial Services / Insurance organisations
- Experience reviewing and summarising medical and GP records
- Solid understanding of Life & Protection underwriting risk frameworks
- Ability to manage case volumes efficiently while maintaining quality
- Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment
- Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
- Able to quickly integrate into established underwriting processes
- Comfortable working to daily productivity expectations
