Role Overview

Albany Beck is seeking an experienced Lead Finance Data Analyst to join us here at Albany Beck as we support a major finance and data transformation programme within the insurance sector. The role will sit at the intersection of Finance, Data and Transformation, supporting the rollout of a new data platform and the delivery of a wider finance transformation roadmap. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance stakeholders, Data Engineering, Analytics and Architecture teams to understand current reporting processes, define future-state requirements and translate these into practical data, analytics and reporting solutions. This is a finance-led data role requiring someone with strong accountancy or finance knowledge, insurance domain experience and the ability to engage credibly with senior Finance stakeholders. Experience with IFRS reporting is highly desirable, while previous exposure to Phinsys would be a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead finance-focused data analysis across a major transformation and data platform programme.
  • Engage with Finance stakeholders to understand current reporting processes, business requirements and transformation priorities.
  • Elicit, analyse and document requirements for current IFRS reporting and future-state finance solutions.
  • Translate complex finance requirements into clear data, analytics and reporting requirements.
  • Identify and prioritise finance data use cases based on business value and strategic importance.
  • Develop and validate finance data models, data definitions, business rules and reporting logic.
  • Design and develop SQL queries for data analysis, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Produce prototype reports and analytical outputs to validate requirements with stakeholders.
  • Analyse existing finance data flows and identify opportunities to improve data quality, consistency and controls.
  • Work closely with Data Engineering teams to ensure finance requirements are correctly understood and delivered.
  • Collaborate with Analytics and Architecture teams to ensure solutions align with the wider data strategy.
  • Support the definition of finance data standards, ownership and governance processes.
  • Identify data quality issues, investigate root causes and support remediation activity.
  • Facilitate workshops with Finance SMEs and technical teams to gather and validate requirements.
  • Support backlog creation, refinement, prioritisation and acceptance criteria within an agile environment.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, showcases and wider programme governance.
  • Provide regular progress updates and proactively manage risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Ensure requirements, data models, business logic and data flows are fully documented.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and handover to internal teams at the end of the engagement.

Key Experience

  • Strong professional experience within finance, accountancy, finance transformation or finance data analysis.
  • Experience working as a Lead Data Analyst, Finance Data Analyst, Finance Business Analyst or similar.
  • Strong understanding of finance reporting processes and accounting data.
  • Experience working with IFRS reporting requirements.
  • Previous experience within insurance, ideally within the London Market or Lloyd’s insurance environment.
  • Strong SQL skills, including developing queries for data analysis, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Experience analysing complex finance datasets, data models and data flows.
  • Experience translating finance requirements into data, analytics and reporting solutions.
  • Strong requirements gathering, documentation and validation skills.
  • Experience working with enterprise data platforms, data warehouses or reporting environments.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, data lineage and data ownership.
  • Experience identifying and resolving finance data quality and reconciliation issues.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across Finance and technical teams.
  • Experience working with Data Engineering, Analytics and Architecture teams.
  • Experience operating within an agile delivery environment.
  • Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity and drive delivery.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and documentation skills.
  • Previous experience using Phinsys would be highly desirable.
  • A recognised accountancy, business analysis or insurance qualification would be advantageous.
