Role Overview
Albany Beck is growing its security practice and we have an opportunity for a Junior DevOps Engineer. You will play a critical role in supporting a large-scale enterprise cloud platform that underpins business-critical systems within a highly regulated environment. You will work closely with senior engineers and vendor specialists to operate, support and automate a highly resilient platform while developing strong DevOps and cloud engineering skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Learning & Supporting the Platform: Help support a live production platform by carrying out day-to-day tasks under guidance from senior engineers.
- Automation & Improvement: Learn how to automate manual tasks and improve systems so they can fix common problems themselves.
- DevOps Fundamentals: Get hands-on experience with core DevOps practices like CI/CD, monitoring, automation and platform reliability.
- Scripting & Tools: Write simple scripts (using Python, Bash or similar) to help the team work faster and more efficiently.
- Tickets & Incidents: Update and close tickets, learning how professional engineering teams manage work and incidents.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, ask questions, take part in training sessions and learn through doing.
- On-Call: After training, you’ll gradually be supported into joining an on-call rota, with full mentoring and backup.
- Documentation: Help keep guides and runbooks up to date so everyone knows how systems work and how to fix common issues.
Key Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in a technical role (DevOps, infrastructure, cloud, support or similar).
- Some experience with scripting (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Basic understanding of how applications run in the cloud or on servers.
- Familiarity with tools like Git, CI/CD pipelines, or monitoring is a plus (not essential).
- Comfortable using ticketing tools like Jira.
