An established and rapidly expanding group of M&E building services companies, with a group turnover of approximately £100m, is seeking an M&E Design Manager - Design & Build, to support its thriving operations in the North. The business has a strong industry reputation, a turnover of around £15m within its specialist pre-fabrication division, and a culture built on collaboration, innovation, and high performance.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced M&E Design Manager - Design & Build to take ownership of the building services design process across a portfolio of large-scale, high-profile projects. The role is mechanically biased but requires a broad understanding of all building services disciplines. The position will involve close collaboration with multidisciplined internal and external teams to ensure project delivery meets the highest technical and regulatory standards. A key part of the role will also be mentoring junior engineers and technicians and supporting the development of a growing design team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the design process on a range of major building services projects
  • Act as the client’s key point of contact for design-related matters
  • Support and manage a team of engineers and technicians
  • Ensure design compliance with statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations
  • Assist in the creation and management of project design programmes
  • Track and monitor RFIs, technical submittals, and design progress
  • Ensure all design deliverables meet agreed quality and time standards
  • Coordinate with commercial and delivery teams to capture changes in scope
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement within the design function
Requirements
  • 8–10+ years of experience in building services design (mechanical bias preferred)
  • HNC or higher qualification in Building Services Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience across a broad range of sectors desirable
  • Sound understanding of BIM protocols; REVIT and Navisworks experience beneficial
  • Ability to lead from the front and adopt a proactive, hands-on approach
  • Excellent time management, communication, and leadership skills
  • Full UK driving licence required
