We are seeking an experienced and motivated BEMS Service / Small Works Engineer to join our growing team. This role is suited to a technically strong engineer with proven experience in service, fault diagnosis, commissioning of small works, system modifications, and performance optimisation within Building Energy Management Systems. You will work across a diverse range of environments, including Healthcare, Education, Leisure, and Stadia, supporting clients by ensuring their BEMS operate efficiently, reliably, and in line with energy and carbon reduction objectives. This is a customer-facing role that requires strong communication skills, technical credibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will also play an essential part in supporting and developing junior engineers through mentoring and technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and rectify complex faults across BEMS controllers, networks, field devices, control panels, and associated electrical systems.
- Deliver BEMS upgrades, modifications, and small works, including software changes, panel modifications, and system enhancements.
- Commission and validate small works, remedial actions, and system improvements, ensuring correct operation and compliance with specifications.
- Identify inefficient operations, poor control strategies, and optimisation opportunities to improve energy performance and reduce carbon impact.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing clear technical advice and upholding high standards of customer service.
- Ensure all works comply with relevant standards, regulations, and internal quality procedures.
- Support junior engineers and apprentices through hands-on mentoring and technical guidance.
Requirements
A capable and self-motivated BEMS engineer who takes ownership of their work and holds high engineering standards. You will be comfortable working independently, engaging directly with clients, and making sound technical decisions on-site. Understanding that well-designed systems require ongoing optimisation and intelligent servicing to deliver real energy and carbon savings, taking pride in making systems perform as intended.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience working as a BEMS / Controls Engineer in a live operational environment.
- Strong technical expertise in Trend systems and/or Tridium platforms, including configuration, commissioning, and optimisation.
- C&G Level 2 Electrical qualification (or equivalent), demonstrating a solid technical foundation.
- Proven ability in fault-finding, diagnostics, and resolving complex system issues efficiently.
- Good working knowledge of mechanical plant and HVAC systems, with an understanding of how they integrate with BEMS.
- Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel to client sites as required.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently and proactively.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers, helping to develop technical capability within the team.
- A genuine interest in energy management, system optimisation, and performance improvement.
Desirable

- Trend Expert status (current or previous), reflecting a high level of technical proficiency and system mastery.
- Experience working with Siemens Desigo, X-Works, and/or Insight systems, with the ability to support, maintain, and optimise complex BMS environments.
Benefits
If you are looking to move beyond reactive BEMS servicing and into an environment that prioritises engineering excellence, system performance, and energy efficiency, ACL BEMS offers an outstanding opportunity to take the next step in your career. We are seeking engineers who challenge inefficient operation, question ineffective control strategies, and take genuine pride in delivering building management systems that perform in the real world — not just on paper.

- Company car with fuel card or car allowance, depending on preference.
- Company credit card for business-related expenses.
- Annual tool allowance to support you in carrying out your role effectively.
