Associate Director – Healthcare Investments
A leading UK and European healthcare investor is seeking an exceptional Associate Director to help drive an ambitious plan to deploy more than £1 billion of capital across the sector.
This is a high-impact opportunity for an accomplished M&A or advisory professional with direct care home transaction experience to move to the buy-side.
You will work at the heart of investment decisions: sourcing and underwriting opportunities, structuring and executing transactions, supporting portfolio integration, and building long-term partnerships with leading care providers.
Why this role stands out
This is not a short-term, transaction-only role.
You will see investments through from first conversation to completion, and remain involved as businesses and platforms develop within the portfolio.
You will join a respected, well-capitalised investor with the ability to move quickly, take meaningful decisions and back high-quality operators for the long term.
The team focuses on resilient, asset-backed healthcare investments and works with successful care providers rather than distressed or turnaround situations.
The mandate includes investments typically ranging from £20 million to more than £500 million, across a growing UK and European platform.
- The investment focus
- The team invests across specialist, essential-care services, including:
- Children’s social care
- Specialist education
- Adult specialist care
- Elderly care and care homes
- Asset-backed healthcare platforms and real estate
You will work on a broad range of transaction structures, including M&A, sale-and-leaseback transactions, platform investments and follow-on acquisitions.
The team is also developing new investment strategies, including further European expansion and a continued focus on elderly care.
The role
Reporting to the Head of Healthcare, you will operate as a key member of a lean, collaborative investment team and work closely with colleagues in Transactions, Finance and Asset Management, alongside external advisers.
Your responsibilities will include
- Originate, assess and progress new healthcare investment opportunities.
- Lead or play a central role in financial, commercial and operational evaluation of prospective transactions.
- Build investment cases, valuation analysis, presentations and recommendations for senior stakeholders and investment committees.
- Manage external advisers and coordinate diligence processes through to execution.
- Structure, negotiate and execute transactions across M&A and sale-and-leaseback situations.
- Develop trusted relationships with care-home operators, founders, management teams and sector advisers.
- Support the integration of completed investments into the portfolio and remain involved in their strategic development over time.
- Contribute to new investment theses, sector mapping and the expansion of the healthcare strategy across the UK and Europe.
- Candidate profile
You will likely have 5+ years of relevant transaction experience gained within an investment bank, M&A boutique, Big 4 corporate finance / transaction advisory team, investment firm or similar environment.
Most importantly, you must bring meaningful, demonstrable experience of mandates in the care home sector .
This could include advising on care-home M&A, sale-and-leaseback transactions, acquisitions, financings, portfolio transactions or other strategic assignments involving elderly-care operators and assets.
You will also bring
- Strong M&A execution skills, including valuation, financial analysis, transaction structuring and diligence management.
- A clear understanding of the care-home sector: operator models, occupancy, funding dynamics, regulatory considerations, property / lease structures and the factors that drive investment value.
- Commercial judgement and the ability to form an informed view quickly while retaining close attention to detail.
- Credibility with senior management teams, investors and external advisers.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Degree-level education or equivalent; an accountancy, finance or recognised business qualification would be advantageous.
- Energy, integrity and a genuine interest in building long-term relationships with high-quality healthcare businesses.
- Apply
For a healthcare M&A professional with care-home deal experience, this is an outstanding chance to move into a long-term investing role with genuine responsibility, substantial capital to deploy and the opportunity to help shape a rapidly expanding UK and European healthcare platform.
