Job Description

Equity Research Associate – Financial Services Focus

Are you a curious and commercially minded analyst with a passion for the financial sector? A leading City-based investment bank is offering an exceptional opportunity for an Equity Research

Associate to join its Research division, focusing primarily on companies and themes across Banking, Insurance, and Diversified Financials.

This role is ideal for someone early in their financial career, looking to transition into the Equity Research space, who combines strong technical foundations with a keen interest in understanding how financial institutions operate, generate returns, and navigate regulatory and macroeconomic change. You’ll collaborate with highly regarded sector analysts, contribute to market-moving insight, and play a visible role in shaping investor understanding of the UK and European financial services landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to Sector Research: Support the production of high-quality, timely research on banks, insurers, and financial groups; from results commentaries and valuation updates to thematic deep-dives.
  • Modelling & Market Intelligence: Build and maintain detailed forecast models, track key financial KPIs, and assist with valuation analysis to underpin stock recommendations.
  • Client Support: Partner with senior analysts and sales teams to provide responsive, data-driven insights to institutional clients.
  • Corporate Access & Engagement: Attend management meetings and industry briefings to enhance company and sector knowledge.
  • Idea Generation: Contribute to investment debates, refine sector theses, and help develop new research initiatives and thought leadership reports.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 2–5 years of experience in financial services, ideally in equity research, accountancy, investment banking, corporate finance, or an analyst role within the sector
  • A relevant professional qualification (ACA, CFA, or progress toward one)
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to present financial ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Strong Excel modelling skills; familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar data tools
  • High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a strong grasp of financial statements
  • A proactive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for equity markets and the financial services industry

What’s In It For You:

  • Sector Specialism: Develop deep exposure across financial services, gaining expertise few roles at this level can offer.
  • Career Momentum: Ongoing training and mentoring, building toward senior analytical and client-facing responsibilities.
  • Collaborative Culture: Join a meritocratic, team-oriented environment where your ideas are valued and your development prioritised.
  • Visibility & Reach: Contribute to research that influences institutional investor decisions and supports major capital markets activity.
