We’re looking for an experienced Chief Risk Officer to lead the development and execution of a best-in-class risk framework for a respected UK investment bank. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a core business function and rebuild from the ground up — with strong board-level backing and the scope to make real impact.
The Opportunity
As CRO, you’ll oversee all aspects of the firm’s risk landscape — with a primary focus on Market Risk. You’ll report directly to the CEO and into the Board, working closely with the management team and NEDs to align risk strategy with business objectives. Any exposure to Fidessa risk system would be advantageous. We’re looking for someone confident in leading a function in a trading-heavy, UK-focused environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Own and implement the company-wide risk management framework, policies, and controls.
- Align the risk appetite with business growth plans and strategic priorities.
- Provide regular risk reporting and insight to the CEO and Board.
- Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of key risk types: market, operational, liquidity, credit, and compliance.
- Oversee stress testing, capital adequacy assessments, and risk input into new business lines.
- Support risk system improvements and drive real-time capability where possible.
- Partner with the CCO and act as a senior liaison with the FCA.
- Help oversee CASS processes and remediation alongside the Operations Director.
- Lead and develop a lean but high-performing Risk & Compliance team (1 direct report to start).
- Champion a strong, enterprise-wide risk culture while maintaining independent oversight.
What You’ll Need
- 10+ years of progressive experience in UK financial risk management.
- A proven background in Market Risk.
- Track record of leadership in regulated environments – CRO, Deputy CRO or equivalent level.
- Understanding of Fixed Income and Cash Equities; ETF exposure a plus.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and regulators.
Why This Role?
- Blank-slate opportunity to shape, embed and add value.
- Visibility at the top – work directly with the CEO, GC, CFO, and a risk-savvy NED.
- No red tape – you’ll have freedom to make real changes without the bureaucracy of a global institution.
- UK-centric focus – no global markets experience required.
