Alan Boswell Risk Management (ABRM, part of Alan Boswell Group) is currently seeking a Risk Management Adviser (35 hours per week) to join the growing team or advisers providing H&S support to regional and national clients.

Risk Management and Health & Safety is a crucial, value-added service, which helps mitigate the risk of claims that can be so costly, disruptive and time consuming for any business. We actively encourage clients to undertake reviews of their policies and educate them of the features and benefits of a Risk Management.

As a Risk Management Adviser, your main role is to work to complement our existing service, to advise about risk, based on technical knowledge and good practice.

Your work will involve:

  • Providing an independent risk assessment for Commercial clients to identify potential problems and take steps to minimise their impact in a practical way
  • Collating and assessing risk information on site of the property to be insured
  • Using templates to record assessments, collecting photographic evidence and preparing and proofreading detailed reports
  • Advising clients on improving the level of risk, or persuading them of the need for risk improvement programmes.
  • Developing relationships with customers and follow up on advice given within the risk management report
  • Accompanying Account Executives on site visits and to assist with training and development.
  • Liaising with other professionals, e.g. underwriters, brokers, client representatives, inspectors of health and safety and fire officers.
  • Keeping up to date with technical aspects affecting risks, e.g. trade processes, legislation, hazardous materials.
  • Undertaking Health and Safety management and guidance within the Group

Requirements:

  • Qualified to minimumNEBOSH Diplomalevel (or equivalent) in occupational health and safety
  • Experience ideally within a consultancy/ surveying environment and across varied risks
  • You will be expected to work when customers are available, which is usually within normal office hours, but not rigidly nine to five.
  • Travelling to clients will be part of your role so a driving licence will be required, and conditions on-site could be mean you will need to wear appropriate safety gear.

Training takes place on the job and through in-house training programmes, distance learning and some external training.

You will also focus on leading, motivating and training team members. Keeping up to date with recent technological and legal developments and disseminating these is a key part of this role. You will specialise in operational or technical risk and deal with larger and more complex cases as required.

It is essential that you have experience in a Risk Management position gained within a broking, consultancy or industry environment.

Whilst it’s not a prerequisite, some exposure to undertaking insurance surveys would be advantageous.

It is imperative that you are confident, approachable and able to communicate effectively at all levels.
