This is an excellent opportunity for an inquisitive and hands‑on individual to develop specialized expertise within our aftersales repair cell, contributing directly to the future of energy.
In this role you will be a key contributor within our dedicated repair cell, focusing on the intricate diagnostics, repair and modification of these vital electronic components during their lifecycle. It is a fully office‑based position located at our facility in Stafford, UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostic testing and fault‑finding on electronic circuit boards, modules, and complete protection relay systems.
- Conduct component‑level repairs, including precise soldering, desoldering and replacement of various electronic components.
- Interpret and utilize complex schematics, technical drawings and other engineering documentation to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Execute modifications and upgrades to existing products as part of aftersales support and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Document all repair activities, test results and quality checks accurately and meticulously.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze recurring faults, identify root causes and contribute to design improvements.
- Operate and maintain a range of specialised test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, functional testers).
- Adhere strictly to all quality, safety and environmental procedures and regulations.
- Engage in ongoing learning and development to stay current with product technologies and repair methodologies.
- Keep available for occasional international travel to other grid automation facilities for knowledge exchange and training, typically up to two weeks.
Essential Requirements
- A technical qualification (HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent apprenticeship) in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent relevant experience.
- Hands‑on experience in electronic repair, diagnostics and component‑level troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to operate standard electronic test and measurement equipment.
- A keen problem‑solving mindset, curiosity to understand “why” things work (or don’t) and willingness to perform trial and error to find solutions.
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail, especially with intricate electronic components.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong commitment to quality workmanship and continuous improvement.
Nice‑to‑have qualifications
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electronic schematics, circuit diagrams and technical specifications.
- Prior experience with protection and control systems, grid automation products or similar industrial electronics.
- Familiarity with GE Vernova protection relays or similar products from other manufacturers.
- Experience in an aftersales service or repair environment.
