Summary

Expert in design related to HVAC (and preferably HVDC) transformers.

The Transformer Electrical Design Manager will provide both technical and people leadership for the transformer electrical design team, overseeing end‑to‑end electrical design activities and ensuring quality, delivery, and cost KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the electrical design team, mentoring, onboarding, and guiding team members; challenge the status quo and designs to meet quality standards.
  • Plan design activities, lead internal and external design reviews, manage the technical risk profile, and coordinate FEA to keep dielectric risk low.
  • Benchmark and align with principal engineers to ensure full design approval.
  • Engage customers to discuss and negotiate, ensuring engineering documents are approved on time and handling technical queries promptly.
  • Ensure on‑time delivery of technical documentation, manage the design change process, and track success against key project metrics such as Right‑First‑Time, Cost of Poor Quality, On‑Time Delivery, and budget adherence.
  • Support the full project lifecycle, including supplier query management, production coordination, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and site commissioning.
  • Present and represent the electrical design team at all levels, presenting complex technical issues clearly, preparing technical reports and providing clear objectives, feedback and lessons learned to the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • Strong expertise in transformer engineering and electrical design.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (2D or 3D).
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, plan activities, lead teams, provide technical direction, and coordinate cross‑functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, analytical, risk‑analysis, and technical report writing skills.
  • Soft skills: teamwork, mentorship, proactive problem solving.
