As Sr Principal Engineer CTH - Steam Turbine Upgrades & Retrofits Integration, you serve as a technical authority for steam turbine upgrade and retrofit integration across fossil and nuclear projects, guiding work from tendering through to project execution. You lead technical reviews, support tenders and projects, shape design rules and technology roadmaps, and help ensure upgrade solutions are rigorous, consistent, and aligned to best practice. You work closely with engineering teams, customers, and suppliers to resolve complex technical issues, reduce risk, improve customer value, and strengthen engineering productivity. You also support knowledge sharing, mentoring, and the development of technical capability across global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Technical authority for fossil and nuclear steam turbine retrofits (including OEM).
  • Serve as lead reviewer to tenders and projects to ensure rigorous, consistent and challenging application across projects.
  • Guide and review NPIs for the nuclear upgrade design (e.g. HP mixing chamber design).
  • Define technology and tools roadmap with the goal to drive customer value and engineering productivity.
  • Authority and technical competence for ITB technology being applied in large upgrades.
  • Represent GEV technical expertise and technology in front of customers.
  • Provide technical consultancy to the global engineering teams to assist the resolution of specific technical issues encountered on projects.
  • Actively participate in special (non‑routine) technical investigations, including RCAs initiated in response to NCRs, engineering issues, operational incidents, etc.
  • Ensure available design rules (design practices, methods & standards) meet the requirements of the ITR SPS business for project execution, consistent with current best practice.
  • Promote development, capture and sharing of best practice knowledge and ensure consistent application across SP Operations Engineering.
  • Assist in the development of technical resources through mentoring, advising, and supporting the global engineering teams during the design review process & associated specific technical reviews.

Qualifications

  • Deep technical expertise in design principals, proprietary design tools and operational experience of the Rugby-ITB technology being today’s standard for fossil and nuclear upgrades.
  • Significant experience in steam turbine design with technical responsibility.
  • Effectively communicates and provides recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and represent the business externally with customers/suppliers.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, collaborative, inclusive and supportive behaviours.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, pragmatic outlook, problem‑solving skills.
  • A formal education and subsequent University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field is nice to have but experience and professional achievements are most important.

Location

This is a permanent position based in our Rugby, UK, Querétaro, Mexico and Baden, Switzerland offices.
