All public sector bodies must now comply with the Accessibility Regulations 2018 in relation to publishing documents on websites and apps. This interactive, one-day course will give you step-by-step guidance to ensure that your content is easily accessed by everyone. Particular attention will be paid to features and changes that can be made to ensure that people with differing abilities can engage with your content.

You will learn to identify the issues that need to be fixed, know why they need to be fixed and how to fix them. Through worked examples you will learn:

  • How tables need to be set-up
  • How and why to add alternative text to images
  • Tagging content

You will also explore key areas for inclusion such as screen readers and use of styles and colours.

By the end of the training you will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of accessible writing and key legislation
  • Identify best practice and the key elements needed to create accessible documents
  • Explore MS Word toolbar features that aid accessibility
  • Use titles, headings, bookmarks and web links to help the reader engage with content
  • Set-up tables for accessibility, add alternative text to images and tag relevant content
  • Use MS Word accessibility checker to identify areas that may cause issues and change the elements identified
  • Apply learning through practice
