About Us

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. Founded in 1989, we operate service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and provide support across the UK through our Digital Service. Last year, akt worked with over 1150 vulnerable young people. We exist because of a simple but powerful thought that no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Today, young LGBTQ+ people are still at an increased risk of homelessness and are twice as likely to end up hidden homeless than their peers. akt provides support and routes to safe homes so that young people can thrive.

The Team

This role sits within akt’s Fundraising team and is managed by the Trusts and Foundations Manager.

Job Summary

The Grants Officer plays a key role in supporting akt’s trusts and foundations fundraising programme, contributing to income generation to support LGBTQ+ young people at risk of homelessness. This role is available at any akt location (Manchester, London, Newcastle or Bristol). The postholder will research funding opportunities, develop and submit compelling grant applications, and manage reporting and stewardship requirements for funders. Working closely with colleagues across services and finance, the Grants Officer will gather impact data and ensure accurate record-keeping, helping to build strong, sustainable funding relationships and maximise income for the organisation.
