About Us

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. Founded in 1989, we operate service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and provide support across the UK through our Digital Service. Last year, akt worked with over 1150 vulnerable young people. We exist because of a simple but powerful thought that no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are. Today, young LGBTQ+ people are still at an increased risk of homelessness and are twice as likely to end up hidden homeless than their peers. akt provides support and routes to safe homes so that young people can thrive.

The Team

akt’s staff team currently comprises 50 employees located across London, Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle. With presence spread across our Manchester and London offices, the People and Operations team, led by our People and Operations Director, provides vital HR and Operations support to the organisation. The People Team consists of a People Policy and ER Manager and People Officer and this role reports into the Director of People and Operations.

Job Summary

To support the People and Operations Directorate in achieving its vision of being a great place to work and volunteer. Our aims are for people of all backgrounds and identities to be supported throughout their akt journey from recruitment to exit, to provide effective policies, processes and systems to help staff thrive, and to promote a culture of inclusion, equity, diversity and wellbeing.

The Culture, Inclusion and Engagement Manager will act as a senior People specialist in EDI, Learning and Development, Culture and Engagement, responsible for leading and advising on related strategies and implementing plans and initiatives to support akt in meeting its objectives. The role will play an important part in delivering the people and culture elements of akt's new Home and Hope strategy and supporting the development and delivery of a new People and Culture Strategy that enables our colleagues and volunteers to thrive and contribute to the organisation’s long-term ambitions. The role will also be fundamental in supporting the People Officer with the delivery of akt’s People administration throughout the employment life cycle, from recruitment to exit, ensuring a positive and professional experience for candidates, staff and line managers.

There is one vacancy that can be done from either akt's London or Manchester site.
