We are currently seeking a highly motivated Façade Designer to join our team and contribute to the successful delivery of engineering design projects from initial concept through to practical completion.

Working across a diverse portfolio of sectors including commercial, healthcare, retail, industrial, education, hospitality, leisure and other specialist environments, you will play a key role in producing detailed designs and technical drawings. The role also involves liaising closely with clients, consultants and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective coordination of design and detailing work to meet project requirements. Responsibilities
  • Working with the client, architect and other engineering consultants to determine the best façade design outcomes.
  • Design of project details under the guidance of a team leader or Associate Director.
  • Producing concept sketches, detailed designs, calculations and reports in accordance with project programmes.
  • Liaising with other disciplines and ensuring the coordination of design and detailing work appropriate to the project.
  • Review and evaluate design deliverables to advise on compliance with specifications and industry guidance/standards.
  • Coordinate with project teams to resolve project‑related issues and ensure deliverables are met.
  • Maintain internal document control of drawings.
  • Edit specifications to clarify the technical requirements of the design.
  • Review façade contractor’s tender returns and design submissions.
  • witness testing of façade systems.
Required Skills
  • Experience with developing and presenting ideas to architects, clients and contractors in meetings.
  • Sketching – ability to communicate ideas and develop concepts using hand sketches.
  • Design/Detailing – competence in 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Building Physics – understanding of the principles governing thermal performance, condensation risk and how they are applied in façade design.
  • Structure – understanding how the principles of structural mechanics are applied in façade design.
  • Software knowledge, preferably Strand, Autodesk Robot and SJ Mepla.
  • Knowledge of materials, systems and installation techniques.
  • Report writing – ability to compile well‑written text with suitable images.
  • Familiarity with façade system designs, fabrication and assembly techniques.
  • Ability to understand and react to design changes and budget constraints.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant degree (Facade Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.) and preferably a relevant postgraduate degree.
  • Relevant experience with a strong working knowledge of BS/EN standards.
  • A rounded knowledge of the engineering aspects of façade design and construction.
  • Strong written, verbal and sketching communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
