AKT II is a progressive design-led AEC consultancy which has been recognised as one of the most successful cutting-edge practices in its field, collaborating with architects, developers and contractors both in the UK and internationally. The position involves assisting in the management of an engineering team/projects within the structural engineering group at Associate level, reporting to a Management Director.
You will have experience of undertaking the design and project management of structural and civil engineering projects, working on large scale projects with a strong awareness of the Construction industry. Strong experience as a project engineer responsible for management of the design phase, including financial management and control of the design process, is desirable.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Managing projects effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to manage a team and effectively plan resources.
- Acting as a key client interface at a technical project level.
- Ability to develop designs from early concept stage through to final construction issue information.
- Attendance at Design Team meetings with Clients and other design collaborators.
- Evaluate project challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
- Complying with all aspects of AKT’s Quality Management Systems/Procedures.
- Providing technical support and training to staff.
- Participating in forums to assist in the development of new ideas/innovation.
- Overall Project Management including program and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
- Reporting on a regular basis to the Senior Management team.
- Complete performance reviews and manage attendance, holidays and any staff wellbeing issues.
- Assist in the drafting of invoicing forecasts for projects.
- Ensure strong team communication to facilitate exchanges of information and knowledge.
- Support and participate in AKT II’s Technical agenda.
- Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy.
- Preparation and management of Project Execution Plans and Project Inception Document.
- Representing the business at external meetings.
Required Skills:
- Excellent technical background in the design of building structures in all traditional materials.
- Good communicator and team worker with experience in managing and leading projects.
- Enthusiastic, pro-active and able to work on their own initiative.
- A high level of IT literacy is essential.
- Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
- Thorough knowledge of UK design standards and documentation practices.
- Previous exposure with developers, major contractors, clients and leading Architects is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
- Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body (e.g., CEng MIStructE / MICE).
- Proven leadership and relevant experience of the management and delivery of design for major building projects.
- Experience in the delivery of complete lifecycle projects through to completion.
- Solid knowledge of concrete, steel, and timber design, with practical experience using Eurocodes and British Standards.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with clients, designers, contractors, and builders.
- Skilled in resolving technical and operational challenges on complex projects.
