The Role
We are seeking a Product Safety Engineer to support safety-critical programmes across complex, regulated environments. This role is ideal for engineers with experience in product/system safety, hazard and risk management, and lifecycle assurance.
You will work closely with Safety and Technical Authorities to deliver robust product safety arguments and support the timely completion of safety programmes. Reporting to the Senior System Safety Engineer and Safety Assurance Manager, you will:
- Identify, assess, and manage hazards and risks
- Produce safety evidence and artefacts to support the product safety argument
- Support compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards
- Ensure safety requirements are embedded and maintained throughout the product lifecycle
- Act as a Product Safety point of contact where required, coordinating deliverables across multidisciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate hazard identification, risk analysis, and mitigation activities
- Produce safety artefacts and documentation to support the product safety argument
- Support compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and standards
- Ensure product safety requirements are defined early and maintained throughout the lifecycle
- Act as a Product Safety focal point for project teams, coordinating safety evidence and deliverables
Required Experience
- Strong knowledge of Product Safety Management Processes
- Practical experience in Product and/or System Safety Engineering
- Understanding of product safety legislation, regulations, and standards
- Hands-on experience with hazard and risk identification, assessment, and management
- Knowledge of lifecycle management in regulated environments
- Experience estimating or costing engineering safety tasks
- Exposure to large platform safety integration and/or systems-of-systems safety concepts
Skills and Competencies
- Structured, analytical problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to produce clear, concise technical reports and safety documentation
Education and Training
Degree (BEng/BSc or equivalent) in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Relevant product/system safety training is desirable.
