If you're an experienced 3rd Line Engineer looking for more responsibility, project ownership and a clear route into leadership, infrastructure, security or DevOps, this could be the ideal next step. This isn't a role where you'll spend your day resetting passwords or dealing with routine support tickets. You'll be the senior escalation point for complex technical issues, working closely with Infrastructure and Development teams while helping to shape standards, processes and the future direction of IT. You'll also act as a deputy to the Team Lead when required, giving you exposure to leadership responsibilities while remaining hands-on technically.

What you'll be doing:

  • Investigating and resolving complex 3rd line issues
  • Leading and supporting IT projects and system improvements
  • Mentoring and supporting 2nd Line Engineers
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation and SOPs
  • Working with Infrastructure teams to implement security policies
  • Collaborating with Development teams on deployments and release processes
  • Supporting ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus initiatives
  • Engaging with stakeholders across the business

Technical environment includes:

  • Microsoft 365
  • Entra ID
  • Intune
  • Microsoft Defender
  • SharePoint Online
  • Cloud-based Microsoft technologies
  • PowerShell
  • SQL
  • Jira & Confluence
  • Cisco networking technologies
  • DevOps and release management exposure

We're looking for someone with experience in a 3rd Line Support position who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues and is comfortable communicating with stakeholders at all levels. You'll be naturally curious, capable of working autonomously and confident enough to challenge and investigate when needed. What stands out most is attitude. Technical knowledge is important, but this team values collaboration, communication and professionalism. They're looking for someone who can lead through expertise rather than ego.

The role offers genuine progression opportunities, with the chance to move into Infrastructure, Security, DevOps and even wider global technology functions over time. There's also scope to gain exposure to the software development side of the business for those interested in broadening their technical skillset.

In return, you will receive a salary of £28,000 plus benefits with regular reviews of salary.

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.
