We're supporting an established organisation that is reviewing how reporting and business intelligence are delivered across the business.
They're looking for an experienced BI Architecture Consultant who can assess the current setup, identify areas for improvement and help introduce a more joined-up approach to reporting.
Power BI will be the main technology involved, but the position is broader than dashboard development. You'll be looking at how information is sourced, modelled, controlled, released and maintained across the organisation.
This is a senior role combining technical leadership with practical delivery. You'll need to be comfortable setting direction, working through complicated technical issues and supporting delivery teams when more detailed input is required.
Responsibilities
- Review the existing reporting environment and identify duplication, technical limitations and areas of unnecessary complexity
- Recommend a clearer architecture and operating model for business intelligence
- Define technical principles covering data modelling, platform access, environments, ownership and change control
- Help create common reporting components that can be reused across different business areas
- Work with data engineering teams to ensure reporting solutions align with the central data estate
- Support the movement of suitable reporting services onto Microsoft technology
- Review technical designs and provide guidance to developers and engineers
- Investigate performance, refresh and data-quality issues
- Ensure reporting solutions are secure, maintainable and suitable for wider enterprise use
- Help establish a controlled approach to testing, releases and ongoing support
- Work with business teams to understand what information they need and how it should be delivered
- Produce recommendations and a practical roadmap for the next stage of the organisation's BI development
Experience Required
- We're looking for someone with significant experience delivering Power BI solutions within a large or technically complex environment.
- Previous experience as a BI Architect, Power BI Architect, Data Solution Architect or senior BI technical lead
- Strong knowledge of Power BI across both design and production environments
- A good understanding of enterprise data modelling and reporting architecture
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with analytical data platforms
- Experience connecting reporting tools to cloud-hosted data environments
- Knowledge of access controls, platform administration and information security
- Experience improving the reliability and performance of business-critical reporting
- Previous involvement in a BI modernisation, consolidation or technology change programme
- An understanding of release management and controlled development practices
- The ability to explain technical recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders
- Confidence working across architecture, engineering, delivery and business teams
Any exposure to the following would be useful:
- Microsoft Fabric
- Azure data services
- Automated deployment and release processes
- Git or similar version-control tools
- Enterprise reporting governance
- Platform monitoring and capacity planning
- Large-scale data or cloud transformation programmes
You'll be someone who can bring clarity and structure to an environment that has developed over time.
You should be comfortable questioning existing decisions, identifying where things can be simplified and recommending solutions that are realistic to deliver.
The organisation needs someone who can operate at an architectural level without becoming removed from the technical detail.
Please apply with an up-to-date CV for consideration. Interviews are being held immediately.
