Firmware / FPGA Engineer Permanent | United Kingdom | Predominantly Remote (typically one day per month on site) Akkodis is seeking an experienced Firmware / FPGA Engineer to join our growing Defence practice, supporting the delivery of advanced FPGA-based solutions across a range of complex and mission-critical programmes. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while benefiting from a highly flexible remote working model, with on-site attendance generally limited to once per month. As a Firmware / FPGA Engineer, you will be involved throughout the complete development lifecycle, including requirements capture, architecture, design, implementation, verification, validation and documentation. Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will contribute to the development of high-performance digital electronic systems using modern FPGA and SoC technologies. Deliver firmware projects to agreed cost, quality and schedule objectives. Implement, simulate and verify digital logic designs and support hardware integration activities. Support scripting, automation and continuous improvement initiatives. Work closely with systems, hardware, embedded software and algorithm engineering teams. Ensure designs align with relevant safety, quality and security standards, including DO-254, IEC 61508, IEC 62443 and ISO 26262. FPGA SoC implementations of algorithms developed within MATLAB/Simulink environments. Scripting using TCL or similar scripting languages. Experience working within defence, aerospace or other highly regulated engineering environments. Experience working as part of Integrated Project Teams (IPTs). Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
