Overview
The Cloud Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, reliability, and performance of cloud services and platforms across AWS and Azure environments. This role ensures that cloud-hosted applications are secure, scalable, and cost-effective, while supporting project delivery teams and customer environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Cloud Operations Team, including engineers focussed on AWS and Azure
- Oversee cloud platform availability, capacity planning and performance monitoring
- Manage incident, problem, and change processes related to cloud services
- Ensure environment management for Pega and other COTS solutions
- Implement and monitor backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes
- Work with Cloud Security Engineers and Technical Architecture teams to enforce security, compliance, and governance controls
- Ensure logging, monitoring, and alerting are in place across all cloud environments
- Manage cloud resource utilisation and cost optimisation across environments
- Provide regular reports on cloud spend, performance, and efficiency
- Suggest right-sizing and automation strategies to improve efficiency
- Partner with Software Engineering, Integrations, and QA teams to support CI/CD pipelines and deployments
- Collaborate with Business Solutions and Project Delivery teams to provision environments and support customer requirements
- Contribute to bids and proposals by defining operational requirements, SLAs, and support models
- Define and maintain cloud operations processes, runbooks, and standards
- Mentor and develop cloud engineers, encouraging shift-left practices
- Participate in architecture review boards and service governance forums
Skills
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Expertise in AWS and Azure cloud operations
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Experience managing multi-cloud environments supporting COTS platforms
- Strong understanding of ITIL/ITSM frameworks (incident, problem, change, release)
- Excellent communication skills, able to work with technical teams and business stakeholders
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in cloud operations, technical operations, infrastructure
- Proven experience managing cloud teams in AWS and/or Azure
- Strong background in IT operations in a professional services environment
- Relevant certificates (e.g. AWS SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator Associate, ITIL) highly desirable
