The Senior Health and Employment Specialist is responsible for providing professional leadership, coaching and day-to-day support to the Development Adviser team, ensuring participants receive high-quality, person-centred support that reflects the Confident Futures delivery model. Working closely with the Service Delivery Manager and Clinical Governance Lead, the post holder will promote best practice, oversee the quality of participant support, provide guidance on complex cases and safeguarding, and ensure interventions are delivered in line with contractual requirements, the Social Model of Disability and AKG Health's values. The Senior Health and Employment Specialist will champion continuous improvement, reflective practice and outcome-focused delivery, helping the team achieve excellent participant experiences and positive progression outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Professional Leadership: Provide day-to-day guidance, mentoring and support to Health and Employment Specialists. Promote best practice, reflective practice and continuous learning. Support staff development through coaching and regular case discussions.
  • Quality Assurance: Review participant records to ensure quality and contractual compliance. Monitor the quality of Needs Assessments, Support Plans and participant reviews. Support service audits and continuous improvement activity.
  • Participant Support: Provide guidance on complex participant cases. Support Health and Employment Specialists in managing participants with multiple health and wellbeing barriers. Promote personalised, strengths-based support aligned to the Social Model of Disability.
  • Safeguarding & Clinical Governance: Provide advice on safeguarding and risk management. Escalate concerns appropriately. Promote safe, ethical and professional practice.
  • Performance Support: Monitor participant engagement and service quality. Support the Service Delivery Manager to achieve contractual outputs and performance targets. Identify development needs and implement improvement plans.
  • Partnership Working: Work collaboratively with DWP, healthcare providers, employers and community organisations to maximise participant outcomes.
  • Data & Reporting: Maintain accurate participant records. Support quality assurance reporting. Contribute to management information and service performance reporting.

Essential/Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Essential: Professional qualification in a relevant health, wellbeing or allied profession. Experience supporting individuals with complex health-related barriers. Experience coaching or mentoring colleagues. Strong understanding of physical health, mental health and disability. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of safeguarding and risk management. Understanding of person-centred coaching approaches and the Social Model of Disability.
  • Desirable: Experience within employability or DWP-funded programmes. Experience undertaking quality assurance or case reviews. Knowledge of motivational interviewing, behaviour change or health coaching methodologies.
