A & J Scott Ltd is a family owned, leading independent home-grown sawmill based at Wooperton, between Alnwick and Wooler. We are investing in industry-leading facilities and equipment, including the construction of a state of the art new mill, to support our continued growth and development. We are looking for hard working and reliable production operatives to join our Mill 9 backshift team. The team works 4 days per week, Monday – Thursday: 2pm – 1am and benefit from a 3 day weekend. Mill 9 is our large log bandsaw mill, processing some of the biggest timber sections produced on site. This is a physically demanding role suited to someone who enjoys hands-on work and being part of a close-knit production team.
The role
- Manually stacking sawn timber into packs
- Handling a wide range of timber sizes and lengths
- Fitting bearers and preparing packs for strapping
- Maintaining production flow on the mill
- Keeping work areas clean, safe and organised
- Working safely as part of a team in a busy manufacturing environment
The mill operates two production lines:
- Line 1 produces core material, often larger and heavier section products which are manually stacked into packs
- Line 2 produces side boards and falling boards of various sizes which must be sorted, carried and stacked onto the correct packs throughout the shift
This is an active role involving regular manual handling throughout the shift and applicants should be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment.
