An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a leading specialist engineering contractor delivering one of the UK's largest and most technically challenging infrastructure programmes.

Working on a nationally significant construction project, you will play a key role in driving a proactive safety culture, supporting operational teams and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and compliance are maintained throughout project delivery.

The Role

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will provide professional HSE support across operational teams, ensuring legal compliance, company standards and industry best practice are consistently achieved.

Working closely with site management, engineering teams and the supply chain, you will help identify, eliminate and control risk while promoting a positive safety culture across all project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health & Safety Compliance
  • Provide expert HSE advice to operational and project management teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, company standards and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and support implementation across the project.
  • Safety Culture
  • Promote a proactive and positive safety culture across site.
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours and reinforce best practice.
  • Encourage workforce engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Planning & Risk Management

  • Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Construction Phase Plans
  • Safe Systems of Work
  • Assist operational teams in identifying and mitigating project risks.
  • Training & Workforce Development
  • Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Support competency management and workforce training.
  • Assist with HSE awareness initiatives across the project.
  • Auditing & Continuous Improvement
  • Carry out site inspections and formal audits.
  • Monitor compliance against project standards.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Produce HSE reports and performance statistics.
  • Incident Investigation
  • Lead and support accident and incident investigations.
  • Manage hazard and near-miss reporting.
  • Ensure corrective actions are completed and lessons learned are communicated.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with operational teams, subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a visible presence on site.
  • Support PPE management and workforce compliance.
  • Assist senior management with HSE reporting and performance updates.

Experience Required

Essential

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate.
  • Tech IOSH (or working towards Chartered Membership) or equivalent professional membership.
  • Managers & Professionals CSCS Card.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects.
  • Excellent understanding of CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Experience producing and reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Competent Microsoft Office user.

Desirable

  • Experience working on major infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering, piling or deep foundations.
  • Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Experience facilitating HAZID and HAZOP workshops.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal Accident Investigation training.
