We are partnered with a leading UK-owned data centre developer and operator to appoint a Technical Bid Manager for their growing commercial team. This organisation designs, builds and operates highly resilient, secure and sustainable data centres and is widely recognised for engineering quality, customer focus and long-term investment in people.
Due to continued growth, they are now looking to strengthen their technical sales capability with a senior, customer-facing hire.
The Opportunity
This role sits at the heart of the sales process, acting as the technical authority across bids, proposals and customer engagements. You will work closely with sales, design, construction and operations teams to translate complex customer requirements into robust, compliant and commercially sound data centre solutions. You will be involved early in the sales cycle and remain engaged through to contract signature and customer handover - making this a genuinely end-to-end role rather than a purely bid-focused position.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Bids & Sales Support
- Lead technical responses to RFIs, RFPs and due diligence submissions.
- Own the technical content of bids, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and contractual obligations.
- Act as the primary technical interface with client engineering teams.
- Support commercial and lease negotiations by validating technical scope, pricing assumptions and delivery constraints.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical risks, clarifications and blockers.
- Lead technical sales calls, workshops and data centre tours.
- Design and present tailored technical solutions for hyperscale and enterprise customers.
- Manage client change requests through the bid cycle, assessing cost, programme and risk impacts.
- Support the transition from contract signature to implementation and customer onboarding.
- Assist construction teams post-contract to ensure technical commitments are delivered.
- Enable a smooth handover to client delivery and operations teams.
- Lead post-bid reviews and lessons-learned sessions.
- Stay current with emerging data centre technologies and market trends.
- Support the evolution of technical sales processes, tools and documentation.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role will suit someone who is comfortable owning the technical narrative in front of demanding customers, while also navigating complex internal stakeholder groups. Key requirements include:
- 5+ years experience in technical sales, bid management or solutions engineering.
- Strong understanding of data centre infrastructure and IT environments.
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary bid processes.
- Excellent customer-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, technology or a related discipline.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to translate high-level requirements into detailed technical solutions.
Desirable experience:
- Data centre design, commissioning or project engineering background.
- Knowledge of UPS, generators, cooling, switchgear and fire systems.
- Consulting or product management experience.
- Exposure to technical contract or lease negotiations.
