Senior Design Engineer – Geotechnical Engineering

The Company

Our client is a leading specialist geotechnical contractor delivering complex foundation and ground-engineering solutions. Its expertise includes bored and displacement piling, diaphragm walls, mini-piling, grouting, anchors, ground improvement and environmental engineering.

The Role

The Senior Design Engineer will develop competitive, buildable engineering solutions from work-winning and concept design through to project completion. The role is focused on helping secure projects, improving site margins and supporting successful operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop holistic geotechnical and foundation designs rather than focusing solely on individual pile elements.
  • Produce efficient, competitive and buildable solutions in collaboration with estimating and operational teams.
  • Apply performance-based and observational design approaches where appropriate.
  • Review and interrogate project information, resolve technical requirements and incorporate agreed inputs into the final design.
  • Provide technical and design support across estimating, preconstruction and project-delivery teams.
  • Deliver clear technical handovers, including anticipated risks and pre-agreed mitigation measures.
  • Attend client meetings and manage internal and external stakeholder expectations.
  • Support innovation and the development of new geotechnical techniques.
  • Contribute to engineering KPIs, process improvement and technical benchmarking.
  • Provide training, mentoring and knowledge-sharing across the engineering team.
  • Gather feedback from estimating and operational teams to drive continuous improvement.

About You

  • Experienced in geotechnical, foundation or related civil-engineering design.
  • Able to develop commercially competitive solutions that consider efficiency, buildability and operational risk.
  • Strong understanding of personal and team technical limitations, with the judgement to seek appropriate support.
  • Confident presenting technical solutions to clients, consultants, site teams, supply-chain partners and internal departments.
  • Agile, resilient and comfortable working in a changing project environment.
  • Innovative, collaborative and willing to challenge established approaches.
  • Accountable, determined and able to work with humility and sound technical judgement.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and discretionary annual bonus.
  • Salary-sacrifice pension with a minimum 5% company contribution.
  • Private medical insurance, income protection and life assurance.
  • Enhanced sick pay following probation.
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service.
  • Option to purchase additional annual leave.
  • Paid professional memberships.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Volunteering days.
  • Ongoing professional development and international career opportunities.

Our client is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds.
