About the Role

  • Lead all commercial activities across a high-value UK construction project
  • Manage both pre-contract and post-contract commercial processes
  • Protect the company’s financial and contractual interests
  • Support project delivery teams with commercial guidance and governance
  • Based in the South West of England
  • Travel within the UK required

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management
    • Oversee procurement of subcontractors and materials
    • Manage project cash flow forecasting and financial reporting
    • Ensure accurate commercial close-out of projects
    • Develop commercial strategies to maximise profitability and cash flow
    • Handle contract changes, claims, delays, and dispute resolution
    • Maintain strong contractual compliance and documentation
    • Ensure proper record keeping to support contractual entitlements
  • Team & Operational Support
    • Lead and mentor project quantity surveyors
    • Provide commercial training and guidance to teams
    • Promote best practice and consistency across commercial operations
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners
    • Support ongoing development of commercial staff

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong background in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
  • Extensive experience in a senior commercial role within construction
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, claims, and dispute resolution
  • Strong commercial reporting and financial management skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Familiarity with construction industry standards, safety, and quality procedures
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field preferred
  • Fluent English required
  • Must be UK-based with willingness to travel
